Overview of Trail System

There are several interconnecting trails in the Beech Creek Scenic Area. It is worth taking the time to understand how these trails interconnect. See this map.

The classic trail guide for these trails is Tim Ernst's guidebook Arkansas Hiking Trails. But to get fairly complete coverage of the trail system in this area, you will need to look up separately each of the following trails:

  • Eagle Rock Loop #27, p. 162-63
  • Little Missouri Trail #45, p. 164-67
  • Athens - Big Fork Trail #3, p. 168-70
  • Caney Creek Trail, #18, p. 172-74
  • Buckeye Mountain #11, p. 176-77

Take the time to plot these all on a single topographic map, and you will then understand your options in this area. Access to water is not a problem if you just plan ahead. And if you can do a car shuttle, then you can park a car halfway through the trip with a trunk full of resupply groceries.

Work from this.

This will do in a pinch.

Waterproof maps and other good information are also available from Hiking Trails of the Ozarks and Ouachitas also.
